Your Curriculum Vitae (CV) serves as your first impression to potential employers, summarising your qualifications, skills, and professional background. But in the dynamic digital age, we at Opportunity Hub UK advocate for an additional tool that can enhance your profile: a compelling video introduction. Below are some tips to help you create an outstanding CV and video introduction to maximize your opportunities.
Craft a compelling CV
1. Keep it concise and clear:
A good CV should ideally be two pages long, aiming for clarity and conciseness. Provide relevant details about your skills, experience, and education, keeping the information targeted to the position you’re applying for.
2. Tailor your CV for each role:
No two roles are exactly the same, and neither should your CVs be. Customise your CV for each application, focusing on the skills and experiences that align best with the job description.
3. Prioritise the most relevant information:
Structure your CV in a way that prioritises your most pertinent skills, experiences, or qualifications. For instance, if you’re a recent graduate, your education should precede work experience.
4. Highlight achievements:
Instead of merely listing duties, showcase your achievements. Quantify your success whenever possible, such as stating a percentage to represent sales increase. This provides employers with tangible evidence of your capabilities.
5. Avoid bar charts to display skills:
While it may seem visually appealing, using bar charts to display skills can inadvertently highlight your skill gaps more than your strengths. Opt for a written description of your skills instead.
6. Use action verbs:
Words such as ‘achieved,’ ‘delivered,’ ‘improved’ can make your CV more dynamic and compelling.
7. Proofread:
Errors in your CV can create an impression of carelessness. Always proofread your CV for grammar and spelling mistakes. Also, consider having someone else review it.
Shine in your video introduction
At Opportunity Hub UK, we encourage all candidates to accompany their CVs with a video introduction. This medium provides a chance to show your personality, communication skills, and enthusiasm.
1. Plan your content:
Identify the key messages you want to communicate. You might discuss your skills, experiences, or why you’re interested in a particular industry or role.
2. Keep it short and engaging:
Aim for a video that’s no longer than 45 seconds. Keep your content engaging and to the point.
3. Show your enthusiasm:
Express your passion for the job you are applying for. This could involve discussing what you enjoy about the industry or how your career goals align with the role.
4. Professionalism is key:
While the video is a chance to show more of your personality, remember to maintain a professional demeanor. Dress appropriately, and make sure your background is clean and free of distractions.
5. Practice makes perfect:
Practise your script until you can deliver it naturally. Speak clearly, maintain good eye contact, and remember to smile!
6. High-quality video:
Ensure good lighting and sound quality. This will help potential employers focus on your message without distractions.
By investing time in creating a high-quality CV and video introduction, you’ll be setting a strong foundation for your job application process. These are the first steps in showcasing your qualifications and personality to prospective employers.

Our latest blog post offers valuable tips on enhancing your soft skills and bolstering your digital presence to stand out to prospective employers. Dive in to explore strategies for networking and presenting yourself effectively in the digital realm. Discover the tools that will help you navigate and succeed in the evolving employment landscape.
3 Effective tricks to find a job in a post-pandemic world
Are you looking for a job after the pandemic? It’s never easy and even more difficult after this economic crisis.
Here are some soft skills that will stare your way in this post-pandemic world;
- Adaptability
- Leadership
- Emotional intelligence
- Critical thinking
1. Improve Your Digital Appearance
The recent pandemic has totally changed how we interact with each other and the world around us. The way we hunt for jobs has also changed. In a post-pandemic world, having a strong digital presence is more important than ever.
Many employers are now using online tools to screen candidates. Your online presence is one of the first things they’ll see when considering you for a position. You may not even make it to the interview stage if you don’t have a strong online presence.
You can follow a number of strategies to improve your digital appearance. Start by creating or updating your online profiles at The Opportunity Hub UK that is a leading social media platform having huge potential to get your personal brand noticed. Make sure your online profile is up-to-date and includes relevant keywords for the kinds of jobs you’re interested in.
Some of the other online platforms that can help you find your next job;
- Google+
- About. me
These are only a few online platforms that can help improve your digital appearance and help you find a job after the pandemic. With so many employers now using online tools to screen candidates, ensuring you have a strong online presence is more important than ever.
Take the time to create optimized online profiles today and start putting your best foot forward in the post-pandemic job market.
2. Build Your Network
“Your network is your net worth.”
Networking is the most effective strategy to connect with potential employers and get your foot in the door. Often, jobs are not advertised publicly but are filled through word-of-mouth or personal connections. If you can get your name out there and make some connections, you may be able to find a great job that you otherwise would have never known about.
There are plenty of ways to network, even if you’re not comfortable attending in-person events. Social media, online forums, and professional networking websites can all be great resources. You can also contact your friends, family, and acquaintances.
When networking, it’s important to focus on building relationships rather than simply trying to sell yourself. Offer help and guidance about your skills when you can, and be genuinely interested in the people you meet. If you can build strong relationships, you’ll be more likely to find a job that’s a good fit for you.
Endnotes
The pandemic has left sizable changes in the job market, just like all other parts of life. Therefore, survival in the job will highly depend on learning new skills and enhancing the old ones.
Increase your online presence, build your network online and offline and learn new skills.

Creating the perfect cover video
On average, recruiters spend 6 – 8 seconds looking at your CV. Creating a cover video is a great chance for you to introduce yourself, make a good first impression and ensure employers want to move forward on your application and meet you.
We’ve put together these simple tips to help you make a great cover video:
Get prepared
Make sure that you plan what you are going to say, and think about how you’re going to say it. Ensure you are in a well-lit space, that is quiet, to not disturb you as you film. We recommend filming your video in the landscape due to its compatibility with our website and that you have a rough copy of what you want to say prepared.
What to say
Keep your video to about 30 seconds, we find that short and concise videos work best to keep Employer’s attention. Make sure to:
• Introduce yourself (first names only)
• Highlight what types of opportunities you’re now looking for and why
• Note any relevant skills and interests you may have that are relevant to what you’re looking for
Presenting yourself
Make sure to be relaxed while you’re filming. This is your chance to showcase yourself to future employees, so make sure you’re speaking at an easy to understand tempo as well. You want to come across naturally, so try not to read off a script word for word. And remember, make sure to smile!
